Week 18 NFL Parlay Picks: Love Conquers Bears Again

We’ve reached Week 18 of the NFL season, and there’s still plenty to be determined before the playoffs begin.

The Packers control their postseason destiny as they collide with the Bears, who are playing with pride as the season winds down. I’ve crunched the numbers and have constructed a same-game parlay for that late-afternoon tilt.

But first up is my traditional three-leg parlay that weighs motivation much more heavily than in past weeks, albeit while not paying a premium and giving in to the “this team needs it more” mentality.

Join me as I give out my free NFL picks for this final batch of NFL odds before the playoffs arrive.

Steelers vs Broncos Picks & Predictions for Week 2: Poor QB Play Keeps Scoring Low at Mile High

Sunday sees a Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Denver Broncos game with the lowest total of Week 2 at just 36.5 points.

The bookies aren’t expecting a great offensive game after what we witnessed from both clubs in Week 1, and neither are my Steelers vs Broncos predictions and NFL picks for September 15.

My analysis

Nobody but the fans of both teams are excited for Sunday’s Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos matchup.

The game started with the lowest total points line of the weekend at 40.5 but it’s since dropped even further, going a whole four points lower. If what we saw in the opening week is anything to go by, then we aren&rs…

‘Unbelievable’: José Enrique relives Luis Suárez’s Liverpool goal v Newcastle

“Unbelievable,” José Enrique says for the umpteenth time as we speak, like many are doing right now, on Zoom. There is a great, necessary distance between us – he in Valencia, me in Beckenham – but Enrique’s words come through loud and clear, and that one in particular. It is used often and is apt given our conversation centres on something that happened more than seven years ago but still feels, well … unbelievable.

A special goal by a special player – Luis Suárez. Enrique’s face lights up at the mere mention of the forward he played alongside at Liverpool, with the Spaniard’s mood only darkening as he talks about the incidents that “killed” Suárez’s time in England. But overall the memories are positive – off t…

‘Shameful’: Roy Keane accuses Manchester United of giving up in derby

Roy Keane has described Manchester United’s display in the 4-1 defeat by Manchester City as “shameful”.

“I think the worst thing you could say about United is they did give up,” Keane, a former United captain, told Sky Sports. “For a player in a derby, or any game, to give up, it’s unforgivable really. The beauty of top-level sport is there is no hiding place. We saw all United’s shortcomings today.

VAR’s failings threaten to plunge Premier League into mire of dark conspiracies

Pitchforks were brandished, torches were lit and tinfoil was licked late into a Saturday night, when the air hung heavy with conspiracy. The Premier League was having its latest – perhaps greatest – crisis of confidence in officialdom. It turns out that “video evidence”, as it was quaintly called before the launch of VAR as a fated initialism, is no cure-all solution for refereeing elite football matches.

“We need the VAR, now. I think we need the VAR,” was Rafael Benítez’s reaction to Mike Dean sending off DeAndre Yedlin after his Newcastle team lost against Wolves in December 2018. Five years on, Dean is a television personality and Stockley Park, VAR headquarters, has gained the notoriety that might be attached to a house o…

2024 NBA Mock Draft: Projecting The NBA Draft Lottery Selections

The common refrain about the 2024 NBA Draft is that there is no surefire, elite talent at the top of the class. I’m a fan and not a front office exec, so I prefer to view that more optimistically: For just the second time in at least the last 10 years, we’ll enter draft week with some intrigue about who will go No. 1 overall. Give me a Paolo Banchero/Chet Holmgren/Jabari Smith debate over a Wemby or Zion lock any day. With about a month before Adam Silver walks to the microphone in Brooklyn, here’s a projection of the top 14 picks, aka the lottery:1. Atlanta Hawks: Alex Sarr, F/C, Perth WildcatsZaccharie Risacher and a couple of college stars will also be in the mix, but whether Atlanta wants to improve around Trae Young and Dejounte Murray or rebuild entirely, it must fix its defens…

5 breakout candidates for the 2022 NFL season

Whether it was Cooper Kupp in 2021, Josh Allen in 2020, or Marlon Humphrey in 2019, breakout players have always been difficult to predict, but not impossible. Solid underlying stats, good coaching, and an obvious opportunity for increased usage are the three main characteristics we need to look at in order to identify which players are most likely to burst onto the scene in 2022. With that, here are five players who are going to erupt into stardom (maybe not superstardom just yet; I’m not going to go in that hard) this season. Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny source: Getty Images Some of you might already consider Penny a star given what he was able to accomplish in the second half of last season. However, in 2022, Penny has an opportunity to become one of the top running backs in …

Night For Joe Louis: Red Smith On Rocky Marciano's Knockout

Red Smith is the most respected sports columnist we've ever had. In his prime, Jimmy Cannon, Smith's friendly rival, was certainly as well-known. Cannon, the Voice of New York, was an emotional, colloquial writer whose reputation, unfortunately, has faded. But Smith endures. What is it about his writing that ages so well? "It's the same reason Shakespeare ages well," Dave Anderson, the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist told me recently. "He wrote beautifully, it's as simple as that." The Library of America presents Smith's finest work in the new collection, American Pastimes: The Very Best of Red Smith. It is available now and a must-read for all sports fans, young and old (and an ideal gift for Father's Day). This week, with permissio…

Cristiano Ronaldo Dominated The Euro 2016 Final Without Even Playing

Eventually, as the days become months and months become years after yesterday’s Euro 2016 final, where Portugal bested France in extra time, no one will remember that it was the poorly played—though passionate—conclusion to a tournament that itself was stuffed with teams that played like our endearing though unlovable champions: more obsessed with clogging their opponents’ attacks than with doing much on offense on their own. Narratives are often more memorable than individual moments, and especially in a final shorn of iconic displays, the powerful storylines at play will wash away the mundane specificities of what happened on the pitch. Indeed, the narrative through lines of Portugal’s win were so obvious coming into the game that you could’ve written 90 percent of the pos…
